“S.H.E”
The story of Jasmine Hormez begins with a phrase from “S.H.E.,” a song about internal struggle. Jasmine chooses to confront these struggles head-on through her music: a combination of classic pop music infused with a smooth R&B/Soul attitude that past generations would respect. At 20 years young, Jasmine is ready to make a lasting impact on the music world with her debut EP, “The Rest of My Story.”
Going against the grain in a society that places such a heavy emphasis on appearance allows her to stay true to herself and to her art. She says, “I feel and experience the same thing every other 20 year old does but I don’t see an equal representation of who we are as a generation. All of the customary subject matter remains, but I approach it in a way that I’m comfortable with. I was raised in the church with certain values and principals, but think I can still be sexy and cute without having to compromise either myself or my values.”
Detroit born and Arizona raised, Jasmine counts Lauryn Hill as her single biggest influence. “If I can give one of my fans the feeling she gave me when I listened to her music, I can honestly say that I will be living my dream.”
Jasmine and her creative partner handle the writing duties on all her songs. She says, “Each song is a representation of my mood on that particular day.” Her production team over at “Baby D, INC” provides a musical landscape that allows her to easily cross genres. Her seamless transition from a full blown pop song like her debut single “I’m Ready” to the soulful mid-tempo title track “Rest of My Story” is effortless.
“As cliché as it sounds, music really is my medicine. Life isn’t perfect for me, but for every emotion I’ve ever felt, I feel like one day I will find the melody to match.”
